Ghana is set to launch its new e-visa system on 25 May 2026, making the visa process more streamlined for international travellers. The Ghanaian Presidency says the rollout forms part of a wider e-visa reform programme scheduled for May, with the launch date deliberately aligned with Africa Day.
One of the most important changes is that African nationals will be able to apply for and receive their e-visas online free of charge once the new system goes live. The government says the move is intended to improve mobility, encourage tourism and make travel to Ghana easier across the continent.
For travellers planning a trip, the key point is that the new platform is scheduled, not yet live. Until the rollout begins, visitors should continue following the current visa process. The Ghana High Commission in London still states that visa applicants must complete the application online and then print, sign and post the required documents.
If the new system launches as planned, it should make visiting Ghana simpler and faster, especially for regional travellers and anyone planning a heritage, cultural or business trip later in 2026. For now, travellers should keep checking official Ghana visa guidance as the May 25 launch date approaches.
